Getting to know you...

Jason and I had a date on Thursday night. It was very exciting. Well, as exciting as a Thursday night in South Knoxville, Tennessee can be. The waitstaff at the restaurant did not seem thrilled to see us come in at 8:45pm (they seriously already had part of the tables pulled out so they could clean under them) and by the time we left the parking lot was completely empty, but still. It was nice to sit and talk and have a meal that neither one of us had to prepare.

The waitress was, well let's just say "less than appreciative" of our special time and seemed irritated that it took us a few minutes to decide what we wanted to eat. I remarked to Jason "she thinks we are difficult" and from that innocent remark, the following conversation ensued:

Me: There was this country singer from years ago named Joe Diffie. His fan club was called The Diffie Cult.

Jason: *looks alarmed*

Me: Isn't that funny?

Jason: *still looks alarmed* Yes. That's funny.

Me: I don't even know why I brought that up. What an odd reference. I guess just because the waitress thinks we're difficult and it made me think of him. Don't you think that's funny Jason?

Jason: *slightly less alarmed* Yes. Very funny.

Me: *snorts* Joe Diffie. How weird. I don't even know what he sings.

Jason: He sings that song "John Deere green".

Me: What?

Jason: That song. "John Deere green". He sings that.

Then. THEN. Jason begins to sing and I'm not even kidding about this:

In John Deere green
On a hot Summer's night
He wrote Billy Bob loves Charlene
In letters three foot high
And the whole town said that he should have used red
But it looked good to Charlene
In John Deere green

Me: *stunned silence*

Jason: *very quietly* I used to have that CD.

Me: Excuse me?

Jason: I used to have that CD.

Me: Who are you again?

Jason: I know. I'm so ashamed.

Every day is an adventure with him.

I hope it never ends.

So I'm assuming he was in horror because you were about to out him as President of the Diffie Cult fan club, eh?
