Looking

Last night my husband was standing in the garage and I was standing in the doorway of my dining room. It was getting late, so I turned on the light and he caught a glimpse of me standing there, in the doorway.

"What are you doing?" he asked.

"I'm looking," I told him.

Just looking.

Sometimes our blessings are folded napkins and red walls and candle sconces that look a little like seahorses. It's okay if those are our blessings. It's okay to be thankful for material things...it really is and I really am.

It's more than that, though. It's this room. The room I always wanted. The family I always wanted to fill this room. The love and laughter that surrounds me and sustains me, not only in this room, but out of it too.  It's a culmination of a lot of dreams. It's a reminder that there will someday be more of us. That "us" will expand to include spouses and children and someday more spouses and children. That my children growing up does not mean that they will not be here with me. They will. There will be even more people to love. There will be even more family.

I am so thankful for this room.

Beautiful post!!! And thanks to opening my eyes to something I never even had thought about. I struggle with my 16 year old growing up, but you are right! He's not leaving me, and there will be more family. :)
