"I have a new motto," Boy Child told me quite seriously.
"Do you?"
"Yes. My new motto is...wait. Do you know what a motto is?"
"Yes."
"Do you have a motto?"
"Mine is...'I like big butts. I cannot lie.'"
"What?"
"Never mind."
"Okay, but mom? My motto is 'It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice.'"
"I like that one."
"Yeah, me too. Because I'm pretty nice."
"Yes you are."
"All the girls say so."
"I'll bet they do."
"Mom?"
"Hmm?"
"Are you important?"
"Not even a little bit. Why do you ask?"
"Well, you wrote a book mom. Doesn't that make you famous?"
I tried not to laugh as I said, "No. It doesn't. Not even a little."
"Mom?"
"Yeah?"
"You're important to me."
I'll take that over being famous. Any day of the week.

perfect.
Does he really say this stuff or do you make it up? How can an 11 year old boy child be so perfect??? He rules!
Can my daughter marry your son? I think I love him and I don't even know him. That is the best motto ever and what a wonderful thing for an 11-year-old to say to his mama.
I agree with everyone--Boy Child rocks!!!!
What a wonderful kid. Cherish these conversations--the teen years aren't always as cool.
I want to clone that boy about a bazillion times and pass him out. Absolutely perfect.
The girls are right. He IS nice :) Good job mom. They don't get that way by themselves.

Def awesome!
That is a great motto- that boy child, he is something. You've done a great job with him. Peace.
Oh wow. That's lovely!
I cannot even begin to tell you how important you are to ME too. That pales in comparison to your son but still. Wanted to tell you.
awwwww
I agree with all this except that you ARE famous!
I just want to let you know that I hope your son will marry my daughter some day.
Oh I would too! Your boy is awesome.
