"So guess what I found out today?" I asked my family as we sat down to dinner.
Before they even had a chance to say, "What?" I said, "I found out that my BMI is not high enough to have gastric bypass surgery!"
The three of them stared at me blankly.
"I know, right?" I continued. "I was totally sure I would qualify and guess what? I don't even qualify!"
"Um, why would you even be looking at that?" my daughter asked me, perplexed.
"I saw a commercial," I said, dismissively. "But the thing is? Two years ago I would have been SO qualified. And now, I'm not! I'm just overweight now, not obese!"
No one said anything for a long moment.
"Isn't that exciting?" I asked. "I'm still fat as holy Hell, but now I'm less fat!"
And after another long moment, the silence was broken by the Boy Child who said,
"WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Way to be less fat mom!"
Then, he fist-bumped me.
Once again, I can't figure out if I'm the best mom ever or the worst.
Either way, I'll take it.

The best mom. Obviously. And CONGRATS!!!!!! You worked HARD for that weight loss.
Awesome. For the Boy Child. And you.
I just "celebrated" my ten year anniversary on April 23rd. I had a Roux-en-Y, and those days in the hospital were the longest of my life.
Things are easier today, less complicated. But still crazy life changing, and for some not in a good way . . .
I too am glad you're less fat!
I love this post! And your adorable family!
{and I think you're the BEST mom ever!}
Progress is progress.
I'm glad you don't qualify for gastric bypass and are losing weight steadily your own way.
It's healthier by far. love, Val
although I'm sure gastric seems like the easiest thing to do I know a few people who have had one and they still struggle with their weight and have a lot of problems - you are doing it the right way and let me give you the BIGGEST SHOUT OUT EVER for your weight loss!!! WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best.Mom.Ever!!! Congrats on your continued weight loss!!
You are an amazing Mom who sets a wonderful example for her children and isn't afraid to talk to them about ANYTHING>
No question here, best Mom!! And way to go on the weight loss. I totally know what that's like and even when you get to your goal weight it's not easy to maintain. But less fat is awesome.

I fucking love you. And your overweight not obese ass. I loved the obese one too but WOOT WOOT for not even qualifying for serious surgery when previously you could have! You've worked your ass off (figurative and literal)
And best mom ever.
Also? Love your son for breaking the silence of crazy. ;)
I love it! Embrace the now. Embrace the today and celebrate us because, in whatever messed up (or not) way, we're hopefully better than yesterday!
